Battery Hurricane Lamps

In the old days, candles are prone to accidents aside from making it hard to keep its light especially in places where there is lots of wind. To counter this, the so called hurricane lamps was created. These lamps were designed to operate strong winds as well as making it difficult for fire to escape the glass in case it was toppled accidentally. Today the need for all that is almost eliminated with the use of battery hurricane lamps.

Hurricane lights make great decorations, although for places where electricity is not consistently supplied most people depend on this for their lighting. Depending on the type of battery hurricane lamps, the number of LED lights as well as batteries use differs. For chimney style hurricane lamps with metal base, up to three C-sized batteries can be used together with a single LED or light emitting diode bulb. Other types have as many as 21 LEDs for lighting even the most extreme conditions. Maintenance for these lamps is even simpler with the LED lights typically requiring no replacements, and either rechargeable batteries can be used for maximum re-usability or long life lithium or alkaline batteries for more extended hours of use. Take note that even on ordinary batteries, these lamps could provide up to 24 hours on the average, of continuous light. The built-in on/off switch as well as an adjustable dimmer could prolong the battery life even more.

Hurricane lamps come in two distinctly different designs. The first one is primarily used indoors although the nature of its power supply allows it to be used as a decorative piece almost anywhere. The most recognizable feature of a hurricane lamp, battery powered or otherwise, is the tall glass that covers the source of light. The simplest version of this design is a glass ‘chimney’ over the source of light. Variations include a perforated metal on top to protect the flame against the wind and a metal base for more stability. Others are designed for decorative purposes and have an ornate base as well as specially designed glass, which can either be plain, smoked or colored. With the LED lights powered by batteries, several other fashionable design variations are also available with many more possible alternatives on the way.

The most sturdily constructed types of battery hurricane lamps are those encased in a metal framework with a handle on top or on both sides. This design imitates the flame-based hurricane lantern that protects the flame from extreme weather conditions. For battery lights, however, these models come with multiple LED lights that can provide even more brilliant illumination. From a minimum of 12 up to a high 16 LED bulbs per lamp, these bright lights are great for outdoor activities as well as various emergencies where a bright source of light is crucial. Powered by just two D batteries, these lights are constructed as water proof and shock proof, guaranteed to provide lights when you need it, no matter what the weather is, or where you are. Considering its value, especially during emergencies, the battery hurricane lights can be considered as a very wise and affordable investment.
